Starliner Astronaut Mission Launch Date Announced
Starliner Launch Campaign Begins, Targeting May 2024 Liftoff
Veteran Astronauts Wilmore and Williams to Lead Historic Mission
The United Launch Alliance (ULA) and Boeing have announced a target launch date of May 6, 2024, for the first crewed Starliner astronaut mission to the International Space Station (ISS). This critical test flight is a significant milestone in the Starliner program and will demonstrate the spacecraft's ability to safely transport astronauts to and from the ISS.
The launch campaign will begin 45 days before liftoff when ULA begins stacking an Atlas V rocket at Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. Boeing will conduct final spacecraft preparations and integrate the Starliner capsule with the Atlas V. Mission managers are confident in the Starliner's capabilities and are eagerly anticipating the upcoming launch.
Veteran NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams have been selected to lead the first crewed Starliner mission. They are currently in quarantine at agency facilities to ensure they are healthy for the launch. This historic mission will mark a new chapter in human spaceflight and pave the way for future astronaut missions to the ISS and beyond.
